In a recent announcement, American Airlines revealed that it will be making its inaugural landing at Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis in 2024.
On June 5, 2024, American will commence daily summer flights from both New York's LaGuardia Airport and Washington Reagan National Airport to Hyannis, with service operated on the Embraer E175 aircraft. Notably, this new route establishes American as the sole global network carrier at the Hyannis hub. By doing so, American will offer passengers convenient access to over 80 North American destinations with just one connection to the Cape Cod gateway, distinguishing itself from its counterparts JetBlue and Cape Air.
Furthermore, American has revealed plans to introduce daily seasonal routes connecting LaGuardia to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Bangor, Maine. Moreover, in June, they will inaugurate twice-daily year-round flights to Portland, Maine, and commence services linking LaGuardia to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Airport officials enthusiastically shared the news on social media, emphasising the significance of this expansion not only in terms of additional summer flights but also as a means to provide enhanced opportunities and convenience to both year-round residents and valued tourists during the vibrant summer season.
Katie Servis, the manager of Cape Cod Gateway Airport, has actively promoted Cape Cod's potential to major airline companies during industry events. This is because the Hyannis service has the potential to cater to approximately 250,000 travellers who currently choose airports in Providence or Boston.
Servis expressed, "When travelers consistently choose this airport, it becomes a familiar choice, and they start entering 'HYA' in their search engine instead of 'BOS' or 'PVD' for Providence. That could truly revolutionise the game."
Hyannis flight bookings will be available for purchase on aa.com and the American Airlines mobile app starting from October 23, with tickets for other routes becoming available for sale on October 16.
